There are those who think we made headway and I say if it were not for Senator Hollis French and a couple of truckers we would not have gotten anything. Sad but true. 20 years and nothing until Mr. French got involved. It is very sad that the Alaska Department of Labor is so very closed minded to the people.
It is a week later and still nothing. No communications by the DOL. No help and I don't believe there will be any. We truckers are slaves to an oppressive system and it will not change any time soon. The people do not matter. The Politicians just are not concerned for us. Maybe Senator French will prove this a untruth and lead the other politicians to getting involved with the people outside of asking for donations.

OWNER OPERATORS TAKE NOTE ;
Why is it, truck brokers can bid work, SCALP monies from legal owner operators and expect us to perform a service and wait 60-90 days or more for payment.
If they are going to be a truck broker, bid contracts and supply trucks then ,THEY should be able to pay the trucks in a timely manner, weekly or bi-monthly. There should be guidelines in place to become a truck broker, bonding, insurance, money in the bank...etc.
Some brokers own multiple trucks and rent them to drivers, yes, this is legal but it is not legal to dispatch these trucks to work for themselves. We all know this is going on,
Let's put a STOP to it!
Yes anonymours, you are correct and the reason is you and the other 3,999 truckers out there allow it. You must work your truck or most must. They must support their families and truck payments. As long as the dirt trucker does not joint hands in an association and allow someone who is knowledgeable of the ins and outs things will not change to your liking.
Stand up and help me, Del Baldwin, do something about it. I understand your not wanting to use your name, however, without some money from you and others I can almost do nothing else. I have tried and tried. There have been others who have tried over the years but ran out of steam. They got very upset at the corruption in the DOL and the abuse of the brokers and General Contractors in Alaska. Do you know of another web site that writes as I do. I have fought this for eight years and even harder over the last two years.
I got rid of my three trucks because of the situation you speak of. I fight the fight as best I can with the funds I have available. I need your help and others, too.
Do yo know of the DOL Teleconference of 7-20-10? It is on the DOL/W&H web site. http://www.labor.alaska.gov/lss/truck-driver-meeting.htm. You can click or copy this address and go there to read what happened.
I am here to help you and your fellow truckers.
